Katrina Kaif’s ‘Chikni Chameli’ impresses David Dhawan

Posted in : Gossips

(added 23 hours ago)

Katrina Kaif’s ‘Chikni Chameli’ impresses David DhawanDirector David Dhawan, who worked with Katrina Kaif in Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?, is impressed with the actor’s Chikni Chameli act in Agneepath, and is happy with the success of the song. The director says he is happier because he credits himself for pioneering not just the trend of raunchy item songs, but also Katrina’s career in commercial cinema. “I started the trend of raunchy item songs with Sarkaiyee lo khatiya jaada lage in Raja Babu. And now look where it has gone,” said Dhawan. “When Katrina did her first major film, it was with me – Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?. Look where she is now! I am very proud of her and of Karan Johar for getting her to do Chikni Chameli,” he added.

If the grapevine is to be believed, Dhawan has decided to add a very special item song in his new film, the remake of 1981 film Chashme Buddoor. In the song, three young male leads Siddharth, Ali Zafar and Divyanshu Sharma, together with Rishi Kapoor will shake a leg in the company of a foreign female face, whose identity is being kept a secret. “It’s a very special dance number,” promises Dhawan, admitting that Chikni Chameli has brought new life to the trend of item songs. “Someone like me, who did it so long ago now has to move beyond the rustic folk type of item. I feel the trend has reached a bend. The curves have to be used differently,” he said from Goa, where his son Rohit Dhawan gets married early next month.

Of the preparations for the D-day, he said: “It’d be a very private family wedding, with just a handful of very close friends from the industry. So I don’t know where those imaginary guests lists for the shaadi are being prepared in a section of press…probably conjectures based on actors who have worked with me in the past,” Dhawan said. “But that’s not how it works. We’ll have a private wedding in Goa, then a huge reception in Mumbai where we’ll invite the whole film industry.” Dhawan is uber excited, and said: “This is the first shaadi (wedding) in our house since mine.”

Keira Knightley turns in a great performance as Anna Karenina

Posted in : Gossips

(added 23 hours ago)

Keira Knightley, as Anna Karenina, emerges from the mist, her gaze focussed on her husband — and her lover — played by Jude Law and Aaron Johnson, respectively. The actress is wearing an embroidered coat that sweeps the floor, a hat trimmed in fox fur — and £1 million worth of Chanel gems, dangling from her ears. The costume designer, Jacqueline Durran, has at the request of director Joe Wright, created a hybrid look for Keira, in which 1870s style meets fitted Fifties couture, and the result is stunning.

Keira Knightley turns in a great performance as Anna Karenina

Anna Karenina is Tolstoy’s giant meditation on the aspects of love, and Keira, now 26, is clearly up to the task of playing one of the greatest heroines in literature. I’ve been following Keira’s career for years, but as I stood looking at her on the set of Anna Karenina, something had changed. The film’s hair and make-up designer Ivana Primorac articulated my thoughts. ‘Keira looks like a proper woman,’ she says
Director Joe Wright, who is filming the train station scene at Shepperton studios, tells me: ‘There’s fire in Keira’s belly.’

He’s directing her for the third time, having worked with her on Pride And Prejudice and Atonement.
And he agrees that Keira has grown up. ‘She’s her own woman — she’s got so much fight in her at the moment,’ he says, as he watches her being framed by Seamus McGarvey, the director of photography, and camera operator Peter Robertson. He tells me that Keira’s taken a lot of stick in England, in the years since they last worked together. ‘A lot of young actors would have gone “Up yours!’ and gone off to Hollywood. But she braved it out, and it has made her stronger — and fiercer,’ Wright adds, with a slightly nervous laugh.

The director believes Keira is more than ready to play Anna — but not a 20th-century feminist version of Anna, ‘following her heart’. ‘As far as Tolstoy was concerned, he was writing a book about a woman who was a sinner — a fallen woman,’ Wright says. ‘He wasn’t writing about her as a heroine. He started off writing this book about a good husband and a bad wife. But then, as he  wrote, he fell in love with Anna.’Wright’s basing his version of Tolstoy’s great novel on a powerful screenplay by Tom Stoppard, in which the playwright gives equal weight to the parallel stories of Anna’s cuckolding of her husband Karenin (Law), and her passionate affair with Count Vronsky (Johnson), and also the romance between Levin (Domhnall Gleeson) and Kitty (Alicia Vikander).

Stoppard’s view is that most previous versions made the mistake of favouring Anna’s story over Levin’s. ‘Tom turned in one draft and it was all there,’ marvels producer Paul Webster. Tim Bevan of Working Title, who is making the film for Focus Films and Universal, told me it’s the first time Wright has worked with a great screenplay. ‘Joe’s had good scripts, but this is a great one,’ says Bevan, a man not known for idle overstatement.

Wright and his long-time design collaborator Sarah Greenwood checked out locations in St Petersburg, and stately homes in the UK (particularly in Yorkshire) which could double as Russian homes.
But the more Wright studied Russian cultural history, the more he realised he didn’t want to shoot a conventional costume drama.

The eureka moment came as he pored over Orlando Figes’s study of Russian cultural history, Natasha’s Dance, which suggested the aristocrats of St Petersburg in the 1870s were more western European in their behaviour than Russian.

‘The aristocrats spoke Italian, English and French — and Russian only to the serfs. There was a sense that they were always playing parts,’ producer Webster explained. So Wright hit on the idea of doing an expressionistic version of Anna Karenina, emphasising that theatricality. Greenwood designed a theatre on a soundstage at Shepperton, from which the action would flow. You go through a door and there’s a train station; go through another and there’s a snowy street, or a forest of silver birch.

While most of the filming was done on lavish sets, there were real life locations, too; and some shooting is being done in Russia, for the more naturalistic scenes involving Levin and Kitty. The scenes I watched looked amazing. Ornate tableaux peopled with extras of Russian heritage, all choreographed to move in a certain way.

And the cast is as rich as Greenwood’s sets. Ruth Wilson plays Princess Betsy; Olivia Williams is Countess Vronsky; Emily Watson plays Countess Lydia; Kelly Macdonald is Dolly; and Matthew Macfadyen, Oblonsky. Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery has been cast as Princess Myagkaya, while her former co-star Thomas Howes (William, the ill-fated footman) plays Yashvin.

Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif to spend time together in Cuba

Posted in : Gossips

(added 3 days ago)

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are likely to spend almost one month together in Cuba. And so the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif saga continues. After shooting together in Ireland and Istanbul, the former lovers and still-thick-friends will soon head to Cuba to shoot for their film 'Ek Tha Tiger'.

Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif to spend time together in Cuba

The movie, directed by Kabir Khan of 'New York' fame, has a story that is set against the backdrop of many metropolises throughout the world. The next schedule will be in Cuba.  Cuba has been specifically chosen as the shooting destination because of Salman Khan’s neurological condition that gets aggravated in cold climes.

Salman Khan underwent a surgery for the disorder in August last year, but the problem resurfaced when he shot in Dublin later in the year because of the cold.  This will be Katrina Kaif’s first visit to Cuba.  Buzz is that she is very concerned about Salman Khan’s health and will make sure he doesn’t strain himself too much during the shoot.

Salman, on the other hand, has been very protective of Katrina Kaif from the start.  The care and affection between the two is mutual, but calling it “love” would be an exaggeration as of now.

Katrina celebrates life with Titan Raga

Posted in : Gossips, Videos

(added 4 days ago)

Titan has always kept pace with the times and come out with interesting television commercials. This time, too, the brand does not miss out on that element as it celebrates ‘Life is now’. The ad features the elegant Katrina Kaif, who is the new brand ambassador for the brand.

Katrina celebrates life with Titan Raga

The TVC, made by Ogilvy & Mather, opens with Katrina getting an SMS from her friend saying that his flight has been cancelled and they should postpone their trip. However, Katrina, instead of calling off her plans, puts on her Titan Raga watch and heads to her mother’s place. And the mother-daughter duo take off on a spontaneous road trip. The music in the background plays “I don’t know where I’m going but I like the direction”. In the end the message comes across: Life is now!

Joono Simon, Executive Creative Director, Ogilvy & Mather, Bangalore, said, “The film portrays Katrina as a young, 21st century woman with an independent and impulsive spirit, who celebrates optimism with the courage to pursue her own happiness. The fictional narrative of the film is unpretentious, capturing all emotions faithfully and with striking simplicity.”

Ajoy Chwala, Vice-President, Titan, said, “Titan celebrates spontaneity, vibrancy and the free spiritedness of today’s youth. ‘Life is now’ captures the mood of today’s men and women who want to live every moment and share it with their loved ones.”

The campaign just does not give out a message that life is about living in the moment, but that one should make each moment count no matter what the circumstances. It also brings in a dash of freshness and the lively music at the end makes it another clutter-breaking TVC from the house of Titan. Overall, the TVC has been well executed and is successful in leaving a lasting impact.

Apart from the TVC, the company also plans to run this campaign on Internet and in cinema halls. The print campaign, on the other hand, features the buttery-skinned actress but is more about showcasing the recent collection rather than the messaging. As a result, the print ads are slightly different in approach.

(added 5 days ago)

'Chikni Chameli', Katrina Kaif's new sizzling item number from 'Agneepath', saw temperature soaring high, but no one anticipated bloodbath off screen. Her song, which features partying man drinking in a bar and making merry turned into a reality show in Dahisar, a suburb in Mumbai.

Katrina Kaif's 'Chikni Chameli' triggers bloodshed at a bar

At an orchestra bar in Dahisar early on Saturday a fight broke out at the bar around 1am, when a businessman, Gupta, fought with the patrons who objected to him requesting the female performer to sing 'Chikni Chameli' over and over again.

The singer did comply to Gupta's request for a couple of times. But Gupta wanted her to go on and on singing the same song to which other customers objected. This led to a quarrel but the bar management intervened.

Gupta stayed back, while his friend settled the bill and left. The arguments continued even after the girl stopped singing. As Gupta and other customers stepped out some fist fight started between them.

After another management intervention the fight was controlled and Gupta was asked to leave. On his way to his ride Gupta threatened the group of man. This infuriated them and they tried to pull him out from the vehicle.

The squabble escalated into a fight, which ended with the businessman opening fire. He was carrying his licensed revolver with him. Two persons were injured and the businessman was arrested on charges of attempt to murder, as reported by Times of India.

He has been keen to do so ever since he worked with Kaif in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, when the two hit it off. So far Kaif, who turned her attention to her musical abilities after her on-screen collaboration with Ali and Farhan Akhtar in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, has not found time to start recording for the album with Ali.

Ali has already composed the songs that he wants to do with Kaif. She has already approved them and all that's needed is for her to record the numbers. Ali had wanted Kaif to be part of the composing process, but their schedules didn't allow it.

"The Kat-Ali album is a work in progress. All the tunes are in place. Katrina will record them in the coming months," said a source. While Kaif refrained from commenting on this new step in her career, Ali said, "Why don't you ask Katrina about it?"

(added 7 days ago)

Katrina in Orchha for ad shootIt is believed that after Bhopal, Orchha has become a hot destination for Bollywood stars and filmmakers. Katrina Kaif is constantly jetting to locales across the country — be it for films or commercial shoots.

Two years back, Abhishek Bachchan and his actress-wife Aishwarya stayed in the town for nearly 15 days to shoot for their film Raavan. Now Bollywood star Katrina Kaif has arrived in the temple town to shoot for a commercial.

She was in Orchha for couple of days, Mohit, manager of the production house handling the ad-film, told mediapersons. Katrina was here with a group of 40 artistes for shooting for the commercial of a soft drink.

Quoting Katrina, Mohit said she appreciated the architectural beauty of the ancient buildings in the town which is situated on the banks of river Betwa. Orchha, located in Tikamgarh district, has a famous temple of Lord Ram.

Katrina shot for a soft drink commercial in the small town, located in Tkamgarh district, which is still quite unknown to Bollywood film-makers and commercial ad film companies. Katrina was on location for two days before wrapping up the shoot and heading back to Mumbai.

Katrina's visit to Orchha follows that of Abhishek Bachchan and wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. They were based in the town for about two weeks, when shooting important portions of Mani Ratnam's Raavan. Both Katrina and Aishwarya are very popular with advertisers and have endorsed for some of the biggest national and international brands.

Katrina Kaif stumped

Posted in : Gossips

(added 8 days ago)

Katrina Kaif stumpedBollywood’s prospective bee queen Katrina Kaif had a sudden surprise, both pleasant as well as shocking. This happened when Shah Rukh Khan casually walked over and planted a kiss on her pretty cheeks during the recently held Colors Screen awards. Wonder if Katrina Kaif is apprehensive of her boyfriend Salman Khan’s strong and adverse reaction. Who doesn’t know that there is a long-standing war between the two super actors of Bollywood?

It’s another matter that Shah Rukh Khan has a large heart, and doesn’t let an opportunity go to promote his colleagues. Why else he would tell the audience to go and see Priyanka Chopra`s next film when it releases? The super star said so while co-hosting a recent awards ceremony. The movie is Kunal Kohli`s ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’. The actress teams up with Shahid Kapoor in the movie. Sources close to Shah Rukh wonder if the actor’s wife Gauri wouldn’t take it seriously. After all, there is no love lost between the actor’s wife Gauri and SRK’s co-star Priyanka Chopra. Reports in the media had even mentioned that the proximity of Shah Rukh with Priyanka had soured relations between the couple.

Katrina Kaif keeps Vidya Balan waiting

Posted in : Gossips

(added 9 days ago)

Yes, Kareena has all the Khans and so does Katrina, but this is one gal who doesn't need 'man'power for success.

Katrina Kaif keeps Vidya Balan waiting

Vidya Balan, who recently advised the Khans to take her surname, had a little run-in with their favourite arm candy, Katrina. zoOm's sources revealed that both beauties were given the same rehearsal space for an award show. Kat's rehearsals ran a bit too long and she failed to leave in time, keeping Vidya waiting outside. Vids was apparently upset as her schedule went for a toss and angrily left the venue. Looks like she just wanted to avoid creating a 'dirty' picture there. Wise decision, gal!
